Walter E. Cooper

Walter Cooper grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. Upon completing Huntingdon College, he taught and coached for 5 years, then earned Master’s and Doctorate Degrees at the University of Alabama. Upon completing a NDEA Research Training Fellowship, he served on the Department of Educational Leadership Faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi teaching statistics and research design courses and advising doctoral students. Walter then moved into administration at USM as an Assistant Dean, Dean, and Vice President of Academic Services at a private institution. He also served internationally in training Olympic development managers and facilitated strategic planning in school districts. Walter served as a Senior Consultant for a major management training firm and moved into the private sector as a Director of Training and Organizational Development. After 9/11, he and associates coordinated Department of Homeland Security Projects in the area of sports event security management. He published and presented widely in this area and co-authored a text entitled Security Management for Sports and Special Events.

He presently is a Professor on the faculty at William Carey University working primarily with graduate students in the areas of organizational behavior and educational leadership. He also coordinates an innovative Master’s Degree Program in the sport management area. Walter and Becki enjoy continuous spiritual development, traveling, movies, antiquing, and sharing quality time with friends and family.
