Deidra Gammill
Assistant Professor of Education
School of Education
Dr. Deidra Gammill is an assistant professor in the School of Education and a National Board-certified teacher. She began her teaching career in 1995, teaching middle and high school English in Mississippi, South Carolina and Cambridge, MA. In 2008 she began teaching English at Petal High School and in 2014 she moved to their Career and Technical Education department to begin the Teacher Academy program. She has been published in Kappan, EdWeek Teacher, The Reading Teacher, and Gifted Child Today and served with Educators Rising as their online content editor and the national Teacher-Leader-in-Residence from 2015-2017. In addition to her work with Educators Rising, she has served as the Methods of Teacher Academy trainer for the Research and Curriculum Unit at Mississippi State University since 2015. While at Petal, she served on the district’s Leadership Pipeline for Teacher Recruitment and Retention, the WCU Teacher Education Committee and the Mississippi Teacher Council. She has been married to Michael Gammill, a landscape architect and MSU grad, for 30 years. They have three grown children, Emily, Christian and Hunter and two grandchildren, Story and Tristan.
